How to Install Live Chat onto your Business Website

Live chats are a great way to proactively engage your website visitor and answer all of their queries in real time. If you’re on this page, you’ve probably already purchased our live chat answering service or DIY chat system for your website, or are at least thinking of doing so. If you’re unsure how to install live chat on your website, read our handy guide here. We cover how to install manually or by using a WordPress plugin!

How To Install Live Chat Manually

1. Backup Your Website

We always advise making a backup of your website before making alterations to the code. While our live chat code is unlikely to affect your website, you should make a backup in case something important is accidentally deleted while inserting the code.

2. Install The Code

Insert the code into the HTML template of your website. You can do this by simply copying and pasting. It is important to note that you need to insert the code on to every page you want the chat box to appear. It should be inserted in the footer file and must be inserted just before the closing </body> tag.

3. Check the Live Chat is Up and Running

After you’ve successfully inserted the code, open your website and check to see that the live chat is up and running. You should see a little tab at the bottom right of your screen saying “chat with us.” If you do not see this, check that you have inserted the code in the footer file of your HTML template and that it is inserted just before the closing </body> tag.

How To Install Using Plugins (for WordPress)

If you would prefer not to insert the code directly into the HTML template of your website, you can install a plugin that allows you to paste the code into the plugin instead. The plugin will automatically pull the code into the footer of your website. Plugins that do this include SOGO Add Script Header Footer and Head, Footer & Post Injections.
